{"id":321,"date":"2012-06-06T19:39:58","date_gmt":"2012-06-06T19:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nci-portlandbill.org\/new\/?p=321"},"modified":"2013-10-20T16:47:12","modified_gmt":"2013-10-20T16:47:12","slug":"queens-award-for-dorset-nci-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nci-portlandbill.org\/?p=321","title":{"rendered":"Queens Award for Dorset NCI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nci-portlandbill.org\/new\/?attachment_id=353\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-353\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-353\" title=\"z NCI Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nci-portlandbill.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/z-NCI-Logo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"85\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>VOLUNTEERS at Dorset\u2019s Coastwatch stations have been honoured with a royal award for outstanding work in the community.\u00a0 Watchkeepers at the four National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) stations across the county are celebrating after being given the Queen\u2019s Award for Voluntary Service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The award is the highest in the country for volunteer groups and recognises outstanding work done in the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Geoff Peters, station manager at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dorsetecho.co.uk\/search\/?search=Portland+Bill\">Portland Bill<\/a> NCI, said: \u201cI feel so proud \u2013 this is great news for the Dorset NCI stations and most importantly recognition for the volunteers and all the people who backed our bid and made it possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is a really big deal for us, we\u2019re all really excited and proud.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThanks must go to the 160 watchkeepers for their commitment, they have clocked up 10,000 hours of voluntary service during the year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThree of the stations are open every day except Christmas Day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The four Dorset stations are based at Peveril Point in Swanage, St Alban\u2019s Head on the Isle of Purbeck, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dorsetecho.co.uk\/search\/?search=Portland\">Portland<\/a> Bill and Lyme Bay at Burton Bradstock.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NCI was founded in 1994 to support the coastguard by keeping a visual and radio watch along the UK\u2019s shores.
