Ross Boatswain, from Wheatlands, Portland, lives with his parent’s, Paul & Sharon, and his twin sister, Hana. He’s 21 and works at a local engineering firm.    After joking with his family about his taking part in some form of “adrenalin” experience, Ross’s parents presented him with a Skydive Voucher for his 21st birthday (01 September 2013). Ross decided to turn this birthday “treat” into a fundraising opportunity by getting family, friends & colleagues to sponsor him in his adventure. Ross and his family are keen supporters of the local NCI at Portland Bill and he felt that this should be his chosen cause for the fundraising.   The skydive was duly arranged for Sunday 29th September at Dunkeswell, near Honiton. Ross decided to take up the optional extra of having the skydive recorded both in still photography and video – in case he never repeated the event! This provided irrefutable evidence that he had completed the challenge!   After showing the video recording of his skydive to members of the Coastwatch during their monthly meeting on Thursday 17th October, Ross presented his well-earned £520 to Geoff Peters. (This amount included donations made by guests at the family party held to celebrate Ross & Hana’s 21st birthdays, dad Paul’s 50th birthday and his grandparent’s 55th wedding anniversary!)   The experience was fantastic and exhilarating. Ross has since decided to make a repeat skydive which he hopes to complete before the end of this year!

Note from the Editor

Ross has shown an interest in joining Coastwatch as a watchkeeper and I’m sure all at NCI Portland Bill will be very pleased to have him on-board.
